ASUU STRIKE – Union to end Strike next week

Striking university teachers across Nigeria today moved closer to resolving the five months old industrial dispute that had led to the closure of Nigerian universities by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with officials of the federal government of Nigeria.
ASUU president Dr. Nasir Fagge told Saharareporters reporters reporters reporters reporters reporters over the phone that the MOU signing took place at the Ministry of Education in Abuja. The Permanent Secretary at the ministry signed on behalf of the federal government while the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress Abdul Omar witnessed the event.

FUNAAB Gets Reward from world bank

Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNAAB, Ogun State, has been awarded the Africa Centre of Excellence, ACE, in agriculture by the World Bank at Dakar, Senegal. The university was chosen after a rigorous desk evaluation exercise, followed by a site evaluation by the ACE Project Steering Committee. According to the global bank, a breakdown of the result revealed that the higher institution is one of the seven ACEs in Nigeria and the only one for agriculture in the country. President Goodluck Jonathan Says ASUU Strike is a masterminded attempt to Jeopardise his Government.

As the strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) continues, President Goodluck Jonathan has described the teachers’ action as subversive and no longer a strike.

ASUU has refused to call off its over five-months old strike despite the intervention of the president in a marathon meeting held recently at the Presidential Villa, lasting about 13 hours.

Jonathan spoke late Friday night at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Bayelsa State caucus meeting held at the Government House, Yenagoa and presided over by the party’s state chairman, Col.
